Her father was Jim O'Grady. Her mother, Jan, was a financial planner. She was raised in Wheaton, Illinois, and completed her studies at Wheaton North High School in 1981. She was a part of a couple of commercials on television, but then moved to Los Angeles. Career O'Grady started her career as a model for Montgomery Ward, and well performing commercials in a variety of ways. She played a role in the 1988 romantic comedic film, She's Having a Baby. She was later a regular in the ABC drama China Beach with Dana Delany. In addition, she has guest-starred as a guest on independent films and TV shows.
